Let's take a step forward together.

Amanda Dennehy, MA, LCPC

Thank you for visiting the website for my psychotherapy practice, Valued Insight Counseling! I am truly passionate about the counseling profession and I believe that this has shown through to all that I have worked with to achieve their goals.

Since I was 17 years old I knew I wanted to be a therapist, after leading a peer counseling group. This led me to Rutgers University where I received my undergraduate degree in psychology.  I continued my graduate studies at The College of New Jersey and received my Master of Arts degree in counseling.  My path has had many twists and turns since that point, but I am thankful everyday that my career dream has become a reality.

Born and raised in a quiet town in New Jersey, I relocated with my family to the DC area in 2013, which was quite a big change- not to mention the traffic!  I always enjoyed visiting DC, from the stunning architecture to the incredible history and culture that surrounds you.  I currently reside in Bethesda with my husband, two teenage daughters and sheepadoodle, Calvin.  I always imagined bringing him to the office because I feel animals have a special unconditional love that helps people heal in remarkable ways.  However, Calvin requires a "little too much" love and attention!

I know that being able to give so much to my practice, family and friends requires me to also give to myself.  I dedicate time and attention to wellness in my own life, including healthy sleep, regular exercise, and balanced nutrition.  In my free time I enjoy hiking on the Potomac, going for dinner with friends, cheering on soccer games, reading, and experimenting with new recipes.

With over a decade of varied experience in the field, including substance abuse, vocational, educational, and crisis counseling,  I have been able to enrich my ability to provide compassionate, comprehensive, and well-informed treatment.  I feel honored that I work in a profession where I encounter the strength, courage and resiliency of the human spirit.

Experience: Crisis Specialist (Emergency Services- NJ), Substance Awareness Coordinator and Counselor in alternative high school program (NJ), School Counselor (NJ), Vocational Counselor and Coach (Cornerstone Montgomery, MD), Primary Therapist (Vesta Inc., MD)
